PRESS RELEASE - Rachel Skinner Millinery Announces Launch of EcoLuxe Collection
PRESS RELEASE
London, 15 April, 2025
Rachel Skinner Millinery EcoLuxe identifies the hats, head bands, hair accessories and head pieces in Rachel’s collections that have been crafted with or adorned by vintage fabrics and embellishments, or made with an extended focus on sustainability.
The RSM EcoLuxe Collection is a mark of exceptional millinery created by or including elements of vintage fabrics from archive mills, vintage embellishments, or collaborations with designers such as Clarissa Hulse, to ensure no collection fabrics are wasted.
As a founder member of the British Hat Guild, and traditionally trained milliner (Rachel served her apprenticeship with Queen Elizabeth II’s beloved hatter, Sir Freddie Fox), Rachel is a proud advocate for both sustainability and quality, and believe they both go hand in hand.
Rachel Says:
“I love the slow process of hand made millinery using traditional techniques and equipment, its a methodical and therapeutic way of working. I’m not interested in faddy, throwaway pieces, I source quality sustainable materials that last, show integrity, thoughtfulness in design that can be returned to again and again.“
Rachel Skinner Millinery is focused on conscious production methods that do not harm the environment, believing in a circular approach to sustainability. Fabrics and materials are of the highest quality, and wherever possible are locally manufactured, or sourced from designer dead stock mills, recycled, or up-cycled from vintage textiles. When possible, feathers are sourced seasonally from wild fowl centers and trimmed by hand. Rachel and her team creates floral details by hand, molding individual petals from vintage silks and other fine fabrics, with minimal or no wastage.
Rachel’s passion for sourcing unique millinery adornments has, for 30 years, taken her to some of the worlds finest and most far flung vintage markets, flea markets and estate sales, where she collects and repurposes jewelry, accessories and vintage designer clothing as one-of-a-kind millinery trimmings.
Rachel Says:
“Lewes is well known for its flea markets and antique shops, its a great place to find really
interesting vintage finds and trimmings that I can adapt into millinery to make the piece
totally unique and one off. When visiting other cities and countries I’m always on the lookout for sourcing unusual
materials and trimmings.”
As a company, Rachel Skinner Millinery’s adherence to traditional millinery methods means that hats are almost always hand-block, hand-mold, and hand stitch our work, with virtually no factory production footprint. RSM also uses only paper and card packaging, and refuses single-use plastics.
