Best Kept Wedding Secret
Why do customers always tell their friends to call Rachel when a ‘big day’ is coming? Rachel understands the stress of weddings, having designed hundreds of bespoke wedding hats. The RSM Bespoke Wedding Millinery Service is a finely tuned process, perfected over many years. Customers are invited to a private personal consultation, which can also be conducted virtually for those unable to reach the boutique in person. An expert at designing pieces that compliment a customers face shape, hair style, and wedding outfit, enhancing their confidence, Rachel also never fails to consider the practicalities of the big day:
Award Winning Milliner Rachel Skinner’s Advice for Mothers of the Bride or Groom. When it comes to choosing a hat:
For Greeting Your Guests:
“If you'll be meeting and greeting lots of people, and would like a larger brimmed hat, make sure the brim is upturned on one side dramatically sweeping across the face, it is extremely flattering and won't get knocked off when kissing!”
For the Wedding Photos:
“Keep hats with a larger brim upturned and off the face so as to not cause any shadow on your face - you want to be seen in those all important photographs.”
“For hats with veils - don’t have too much veiling covering your eyes, again you want to be seen in the photographs.”
Consider the Time and Location:
“The location and time of the wedding are factors to be considered when choosing a wedding hat style. You may only want to wear your hat for a couple of hours or wear it throughout the event and into the evening. Comfort, and a perfectly fitted hat are very important so you can forget about it and enjoy your day. Killer heels can hurt your feet but a well fitted hat is beauty without pain!”
The Sky is the Limit:
“There are few limitations in millinery, the variations on style, fabric choice, colour and trim are endless and the experience of having a hat made for you is extremely fun and exciting.”
Customers are welcome to bring a friend or family member with them to their design consultation. Following the consultation, a fitting will be scheduled.
There is usually a space of between four and six weeks from the Design Consultation to the Fitting. This time is essential because Rachel is a traditionally trained professional milliner. She uses intricate millinery techniques taught to her by Sir Frederick Fox - Queen Elizabeth II’s beloved ‘hatter’ in whose salon Rachel received her apprenticeship. Rachel honors traditional methods of millinery craft and is an advocate of preserving traditional techniques, part of her mission as co-founder of the British Hat Guild.
Every Rachel Skinner Bespoke Bridal Millinery design is hand blocked, shaped and sewn. Pieces can be optically dyed in custom colors to suit your outfit, and enhanced with individually cut, colored, shaped and sewn silk petals and adornments, and custom finishes such as hand manicured and dyed feathering, individually embroidered crystal and pearl beads or vintage brooches.
