The Goodwood Revival

The Goodwood Revival will be held this year between the 6th and 8th of September.

The blend of road racing and fashion is what makes the Goodwood Revival so special. Here are some tops tips to dress to impress and ensure that you pull off a chic period style look, whether you’re going for the 40s, 50s or 60s era.

For a 1940’s utility style go for a tailored suit with wide squared shoulders, drawn in at the waist with a belt. Pair with a skirt that sits just below the knee and some modest kitten heels. Style with tightly curled hair and one of the many styles of 1940’s style hats including cocktail hats, asymmetric shaped hats worn low on one side of your brow, structured and soft berets.

Or how about going for a post war new look choose a printed dress with a full skirt, round-shoulders and a high V-neck and cinch the waist with a belt. Pair with modest heels and a trendy curled up do and wear a headband, halo style hat, turban or headscarf. Don’t forget to finish the 1940’s look with the all important red lipstick!

Any of these styles of headwear are perfect for a 1940’s look: Links to Loretta, Chloe, Daphne, Sienna

For a 1950’s style its the hourglass silhouette with billowing skirts, small puff sleeves, square necklines and cinched in waists with a belt. (See Audrey hat, Emma, Beatrice, Audria).

Or a slightly more boyish look is a slim cut three quarter length trousers with a short jacket and flat shoes or a slimline cut dress below the knee worn with a structured jacket with kitten heels, pearl necklace and an updo hairstyle. Styles of headwear are wide brims worn on an angle (think Audrey Hepburn at Breakfast at Tiffany’s) elegant bows, classic down brims, domed brims, bucket hats, headbands, birdcage veils, halo bands, and bandeau’s/turbans. It can be a long day at Goodwood so avoid wearing anything with too high a heel.

Jacqueline Kennedy, America’s First Lady made the skirt suit popular in the 1960’s. You’ll need an A-line pencil skirt and boxy jacket and the all important jackie o pillbox hat worn on the back of the head. To finish wear white gloves and pearls for the full sophisticated look. Try ‘The Jackie’.

There’s also the mod style with a mini shift dress, leather go-go boots, tights and a trench coat. Style with sleek hair, wild eyeshadow and a simple hairband! - The Elizabeth, The Audria or The Charlotte for example.
